# Is a website redesign worth it?

Rebuild when the templates cannot carry the job. Patch when they can. Capture date 12 August 2026.

Quick answer A website redesign is worth it when templates, trust or conversion paths cannot be patched — not when you are bored of the colour. Our published redesign starts from £3,495 (12 August 2026). Skip this if you only need copy, speed fixes or a new logo on the same templates; those are cheaper and we will say so.

## Who should skip this?

- Owners who are bored of a colour palette but converting fine — that is a brand tweak, not a rebuild.
- Teams that will not map old URLs to new ones or will not give Search Console access during launch.
- Shops that actually need a new product catalogue platform; that is commerce scope, not a coat of paint.

## When is a redesign worth it?

Worth it when templates cannot express the pages you need: no treatment or practice-area pattern, no trustworthy people block, no extractable answer region, mobile nav that hides the enquiry. Worth it when Core Web Vitals are a template problem, not a single uncompressed hero. Worth it when the CMS fights editors so content goes stale. Worth it when trust is visibly off — stock photos, no named humans, no regulator numbers in a YMYL sector.

If booked consultations or qualified enquiries are the job, and the current site loses them in the first screen, a redesign is a commercial tool. If the job is “look more premium” with no conversion path change, it is interior decorating.

## When should you not redesign?

Do not redesign to “do SEO”. SEO is crawl, content, corroboration and intent. A new theme with the same thin pages is a more expensive thin site. Do not redesign because a salesperson said Google prefers it. Do not redesign in the same month as a domain move, a merger, and a brand rename unless you like forensic redirects. Do not redesign if nobody will own content after launch — you will be back in two years.

| Symptom | Redesign? | Try first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ugly but converting | Usually no | Brand polish on current templates |
| Slow LCP from one image | No | Compress, preload, drop the slider |
| Cannot add a treatment page type | Yes | — |
| Blocked AI crawlers | No | [Robots checker](https://elitedigitalagency.io/tools/robots-checker/) |
| No Person / FAQ schema | No | [Schema checker](https://elitedigitalagency.io/tools/schema-checker/) |
| IA from 2014, five CTAs, no answer | Yes | — |

## What does a redesign cost with us?

From £3,495 one-off — published on pricing and open data. Healthcare, dental and legal rebuilds still sit on Essential / Practice / Authority when that is the right SKU family (from £1,995). Shopify from £8,495. Use the cost estimator with scope Redesign. VAT extra. Photography, copy you will not review, and third-party apps are not smuggled into the from-price.

## How do you avoid an SEO cliff?

Inventory every indexed URL before you touch templates. Keep URLs when the meaning is the same. 301 the rest, including trailing-slash and parameter junk you actually rank for. Preserve titles, H1 intent and the 40–60 word answers that engines already extract. Re-submit sitemaps. Watch Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools in the first fortnight. IndexNow helps Bing notice; it does not forgive a missing redirect. We still will not guarantee zero movement.

Run a GEO audit on staging if it is public, or immediately after launch. If schema went from one @graph to five blocks, you made extractability worse while making it “prettier”.

## What should you try instead of a rebuild?

Fix crawler policy, add a named author, write the missing money-page answers, kill the slider, make the phone number a link, put fees or a honest “from” on the page. Those are hours, not a from-£3,495 project. If after that the templates still cannot hold a comparison table and a skip-list, then redesign. Related: who should do the work, proposal.

## What are the common questions about Website redesign — frequently asked questions?

**How much is a redesign with you?**

Website redesign starts from £3,495 one-off — the same published figure as web design from, capture date 12 August 2026. A new Shopify build is from £8,495. Care from £99/month is not a redesign.

**Will a redesign reset my Google rankings?**

It can if you change URLs without redirects, drop indexable content, or block crawlers. A redesign that keeps URLs, maps old to new, and preserves extractable answers should not be a reset. We will not promise ‘no fluctuation’.

**Can we just change the colours?**

If colour is the only problem, do not buy a redesign. Buy a designer day. Redesign is for information architecture, templates, speed, trust and conversion paths that the current templates cannot carry.

**Is a new CMS required?**

Only if the current CMS cannot ship the templates you need, or is a security and editor liability. CMS migration is a project inside the redesign, not a slogan.
