A director should also update Companies House officer details. A personal name change does not automatically rename a limited company, trading name or domain. Check each organisation’s current evidence requirements before submitting documents. ## Does a personal name change also change your company name? No. Your name as a person, a limited company’s registered name, a sole trader’s trading name and a domain name are different records. Companies House lists company-name and director-detail changes separately. Decide which records actually need to change; a personal name change alone does not rename the company. Keep a short inventory: your personal identity documents; Companies House officer entry if you are a director; HMRC personal and business records; business bank and payment-provider accounts; contracts and invoices; website legal notices; professional registers where relevant; and the registrant/contact details held by your domain registrar. ## Do you need a deed poll to document the change? If your trading or business details also change, follow its [business-change process](https://www.gov.uk/tell-hmrc-changed-business-details). - Ask your bank, card processor, invoicing tool and insurer which name and proof they need. [GOV.UK says sole traders must include their name and any business name on official paperwork](https://www.gov.uk/become-sole-trader/choose-your-business-name), such as invoices and letters. Review those templates when your personal name changes. - If you use a separate trading name, decide whether it should remain as it is. A new personal name alone does not require you to change a domain or brand. ## How do you keep your public and digital identity consistent? Update names on the website only where they identify the person who changed names: team biographies, author profiles, contact signatures and relevant legal notices. If a company name or trading brand changes separately, plan redirects, on-page wording and customer communications before replacing it everywhere. Check the domain registrar’s account-holder and registrant records, but treat those as a separate administrative update rather than a domain rename. Make a record of the date, organisation, submitted evidence and confirmation for each change.
