# Entity SEO and the Knowledge Graph in an AI world

Search engines think in entities — named things with attributes and relationships — not strings of keywords. Here is how to make your brand a well-defined entity machines cannot confuse with anyone else.

Entity SEO is the practice of defining your brand as an unambiguous thing in machine-readable terms — consistent names, schema with stable identifiers, and matching descriptions across the web — so search engines and AI models know exactly who you are and cannot confuse you with anyone else.

## What is an entity in search?

An entity is a named thing a search engine can hold in its knowledge graph: a company, a person, a product, a place — with attributes (founder, address, category) and relationships (employs, located-in, offers). Google moved from matching strings to resolving entities more than a decade ago; AI answer engines are entity-native from day one. When ChatGPT decides whether to mention your brand, it is answering an entity question: which specific thing, among all similar names, is this?

## Why do brands fail the entity test?

Ambiguity. The company name is "Elite Digital" on the homepage, "Elite Digital Agency" in the footer, and "Elite AI Solutions" on LinkedIn. The founder's bio uses a different job title on every platform. The schema declares an Organisation that the About page describes differently. Each inconsistency is a small vote that you are not one thing but several fuzzy things — and machines hedge on fuzzy things by citing someone clearer.

## How do you build a clean entity?

- Pick one canonical name and description — write the two-sentence version of who you are, then use it verbatim everywhere: site, schema, social profiles, directories.
- Give every entity a stable @id — your organisation, your founder, your website each get one persistent identifier in JSON-LD, referenced the same way on every page.
- Connect with sameAs — point your schema at your Companies House entry, LinkedIn, and any other authoritative profile so engines can reconcile identities.
- Earn third-party descriptions — directories, press, client sites and reviews describing you in the same terms you use yourself.
- Audit quarterly — search your brand name and check whether the knowledge panel, AI answers and profiles still describe the same entity.
 The 30-minute version

Ask an AI engine "what is [your brand]?" If the answer is vague, wrong, or about a different company, you have an entity problem — and no amount of blog publishing will fix it until the entity is clean.

## What if you share a name with another company?

Disambiguate aggressively: always pair your name with a qualifier in schema and key pages (location, category, or founder), claim your Companies House and LinkedIn profiles so the legal entity is unambiguous, and make your description so specific that no reasonable model could attach it to another firm. Shared names are survivable — vague names are not.

The C.I.T.E. Framework Entity corroboration is the E — see how it fits the whole method.
